Get yourself a deal, It’s MCN show time
Pay attention at the back. It’s that time of year when, if you have actually bothered to read some of the great advice we give away, you’ll know now you are able to get a better deal on gear than at practically any other time of year. Better than even the online retailers can manage. That’s right, it’s big show time.
Obviously, what with Christmas, the January sales and bloody Valentine’s Day hitting the wallet in quick succession, you’d think now is not an ideal time. But that’s exactly the problem the retailers have at this time of year. Nobody is spending.
Nobody that is except the canny sods who know the best deals on gear and kit can be found at the traders’ stands at motorcycle shows.
So, in a desperate bid to part us from at least some of our pre-season cash, the clothing and accessories traders will be offering some serious discounts at the Carole Nash MCN London Motorcycle Show at the Excel this weekend.
We’ll be tweeting and posting the best deals
Now, we had intended to give you a taste of the best deals each of the bigger traders are offering. But when we did our ring round early this week, we found they were being a bit coy, not wanting to have their prices available for competitors to match. In the words of one, “We won’t know the deals until the boss decides what they are on Friday morning, mate.”
Not ideal if you need to know how much to raid the piggy bank for, but we get why it is.
So instead we are going to be putting the best deals we can find on our Twitter and Facebook pages on the first day of the show, this Friday. All you need to do is follow us/like our page to keep updated.
To give you an idea of the type of deals you can expect, last year our editor picked up a Shoei NXR, in a decent colour, that would normally retail for around £380 for just £300, with a black tint visor included. That’s an actual saving of around £120-£130. Plus, unlike buying online, he got to try that lid and at least five other before he parted with his cash.

Not just great deals
Of course, your entry ticket doesn’t just save you cash when you are after bargain gear. There’s also everything else the show has to offer.
This year’s highlights include the launch of Triumph’s new Street Triple, and the chance to jump on the Ducati Superleggera, the 2017 Honda CBR1000RR, the new big Gixxer and the Yamaha R6. Yum.
The slide show is back, of course. This year’s stars include TT legend John McGuinness, former World Superbike Champions Neil Hodgson and Troy Corser, fan favourite Chris Walker and Australian speedway stars Mark Lemon and Kevin Doolan.

Those of us of a certain age can drool over a collection of Barry Sheene’s most iconic machines (have you read this on the RD 250 yet?). Grand Prix fans are in for
Grand Prix fans are in for treat too as three genuine Ducati MotoGP Desmosedici’s used by Loris Capirossi, Carlos Checa and Casey Stoner will be on display throughout the event, and we hear they are going to be fired-up on the Saturday.
There’s also the Coy’s classic auction, the shed-built specials at the Custom Bike Show, the Adventure zone and of course 18 major manufacturers and more stands than we can be bothered to count. Stands with deals, DEALS we tell you!
Get yourself sorted:
Borrow some dosh off your granny if you have to. This is of one the best opportunities of the year to save money on gear. And no, they don’t pay us to say that. If you know, you know.
