Motorcycle Events in May 2019
May is a HUGE month for biker events! We have multiple festivals, the North West 200, The Bike Shed Show, and of course the big one, the Isle of Man TT Festival.
BMAD Bike Festival
(EVENT CURRENTLY CANCELLED but stay tuned…)
Paignton Beach, Devon
Unfortunately, the 2019 event has had to be cancelled due to rising costs and a lack of sponsorship. However the organisers, all volunteers – who have raised over £500,000 for South West charities in the last 10 years – are trying to find a way to crowdfund the event. For more information please see the event’s Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/BikersMakeADifference/
Llandudno Transport Festival
Bodafon Fields, Llandudno, Conwy County, North Wales, LL30 3BW
Around 100 classic bikes will be on display as part of the wider transport festival, which is the focal point of the year for many motoring societies, including the British Motorcycle Preservation Society of North Wales. There are road runs and a tie-in with the Victorian Extravaganza event that takes place at the same time.
Bike 1066 plus ‘May Day Run’ ‘Britain’s Biggest Free to Attend Motorcycle Festival’
Hastings, East Sussex
For over 35 years thousands of bikers have visited Hastings every May Day Bank Holiday Monday and now, bike1066 is a part of that tradition. In 2014, bike1066 Spring Opener became as big as the world-famous Isle of Man TT Races. 41,000 bikes attended bike1066 in one day while an estimated 31,000 attended the Isle of Man TT. The festivities start on Saturday with a number of music and bike related activities.

As well as the free event, for a small entry fee the private museum covers many four and two-wheeled vehicles, including the largest collection anywhere of Norman motorcycles (made in Kent). North West 200
The Paddock, Portrush Road, Portstewart, Northern Ireland, BT55 7PT
Not a ‘poor man’s TT’ (although a damn sight easier to get to) but one of the world’s fastest road races attracting over 100,000 spectators in a festival atmosphere with another two million around the world tuning in and wishing they were there. Along with the Ulster GP, this race week attracts all of the top riders and all of the ballyhoo that comes along with them. Epic.
Prices: Grandstand seats from £25
Nifty Fifty Endurance Moped Championship Round 2
Route 34 Motocross Park, Down Farm Lane, Winchester, Hants. SO22 6RG
Teams raise funds for their favourite charitable organisations. Each team can consist of up to four riders who aim to complete as many laps as they can around a specially prepared Motocross track for 5hrs. Each team are using mopeds and scooters which have engines of up to 90cc’s! These events push the limits of man and machine!
Prices: Four-man team entry £110, spectators free
Pendine Speed Week,
Pendine Sands, Carmarthen SA33, Wales
A few times a year (also September) the Ministry of Defence lets a bunch of speed freaks blast down its 7-mile beach at Pendine in South Wales. The same place Guy Martin did his chase-a-truck-on-a-bicycle lunacy and where Top Gear used to fool around in flashy motors. What else is there to say, really? Except it not really a ‘week’ is it?
Prices: Free to watch
MCN Festival of Motorcycling
Peterborough Arena, Peterborough, Cambs, PE2 6XE
There’s something for everyone at the MCN Festival. All the big manufacturers turn up and often test rides are available. There’s plenty of kit to buy and although there’s little info available at the time of writing, last year’s event featured a wall-of-death (scary as fuck) and a dirt track complete with race events. That fella that does all the stunts was probably there too. Can’t remember.
Prices: Adults £15 (£22 on the gate), Kids under 15 free
Blackfords Pre-TT Classic Road Races
Billown Course, Isle of Man
This is the 31st year of the Classic Road races, a warm-up event for the main TT that is attracting a record number of entrants and attendees, who are free to mix together between races. As well as the racing itself, a Concours D’Elegance takes place in Castletown before the awards of trophies to the winners of each race.
24-26 May (TBC)
The Bike Shed
Tobacco Dock, The Dock Tobacco Quay, Wapping Lane, London. E1W 2SF
If you are into the new wave custom / retro-resto scene, this is your mecca. 150 shed and pro-built bikes from the biking sub-culture that the big manufacturers are taking very, very seriously. This event isn’t held as much as curated – the standard of the bikes is always exceptional and if you don’t find the pop up shops and food options to your liking (you will though) you can always head over the Bike Shed permanent offshoot bar/diner over in Shoreditch, seeing as you’re in town. Highly recommended, as it is on our Bucket List.
Prices: Weekend Pass, Adult £18, Kids under 16 free
Bennetts British Superbike Championship
Donington Park Circuit, Castle Donington, Derby, DE74 2RP
The Bennetts BSB calendar has been revamped for 2019 to include not just one, but two, visits to Donington Park including this late May Bank Holiday Weekend triple-header on the National circuit. Three Bennetts BSB races will headline the show (one on Saturday, two on Sunday), with a superb support line-up including action from the British Supersport Championship and much more.
Prices: Adult, single day from £28.00, Kids 13-15: £17, Kids under 13 free. Weekend from £38
Bideford Bike Show
The Quay, Bideford, Devon, EX39 2HW
This is the 6th Bideford Bike Show and we hope to raise as much money as possible for our chosen charities. There will be stands/stalls, food, music a prize raffle and prizes for the best bikes including: Best Vintage, Best Classic, Best Chopper, Best Sports and Best Engineered.
Prices: £3 per bike/trike, pedestrians free.
25 May – 7 June
Isle of Man TT 2018
Isle of Man, in the middle of the Irish Sea
Even if sport bikes aren’t your cup of tea, you really have to get yourself to the Island during the festival to experience what some feel is lunacy but we know is actually two weeks of biking nirvana – two weeks when bikers can be together, loved by everyone on the island, not feared, treated to many special events, allowed to go as fast as they like most of the time for miles and miles of beautiful countryside before retiring to the seafront to tell tall tales over the local beer with a curry afterwards. And as a bonus there’s even a bit of racing.
Prices: Grandstand tickets from £3, ferry tickets see here: http://www.steam-packet.com/AboutUs/IsleOfManTT
Ace Cafe, Ace Corner, North Circular Road (A406), London, NW10 7UD
Now, we’ll have none of that mods v rockers nonsense anymore, please. This is a peaceful event, well except the sound of a few thousand exhaust cans, setting off early doors from the Ace Cafe in North London over to the Kent coast. Ice creams all round and no sniggering at the scooterists.
Unless there is a significant show element involved, we haven’t listed every autojumble and swap meet in the Motorcycle Events Calendar. Likewise, unless there is a hefty bike activities element, we haven’t included many club rallies or biker-only music festivals, unless they’ve got a great reputation. This is mainly a list of the larger or more specialist bike-focussed events, plus we’ve added in the major sports bike race events.
All prices are on-the-gate prices for a single day visit, unless otherwise stated. Other ticket prices may be available in advance, as well as concessionary prices. See event websites for more details.
If your event isn’t listed in the Motorcycle Events Calendar, let us know via the Contact Us page, using the ‘editorial’ email address and putting the words Event Listing in the subject line of your email.
