The 10 best motorbikes for real world fuel economy

Fuelly.com is a great website for keeping track of your fuel mileage. The data from everyone’s bikes is also made available, so you can see what other owners are getting from their bikes.

Virtually every single bike of recent years is represented by at least one entry. Some bikes, like BMW’s GS and Honda’s VFR, have data from hundreds of owners, broken down by model year. Finally, you can ignore what the manufacturers claim and see what real bikers are getting on real roads.

Here’s the top 10

The numbers in brackets represent the number of owners who have submitted mileages.

1) Honda CBR250R (607)
2) Honda NC700X (450)
3) Suzuki SV650S (375)
4) Honda VFR800 Interceptor(367)
5) Kawasaki EX250F Ninja 250R (367)

**NERD ALERT**

The list doesn’t show the ten bikes with the highest MPG. It’s mathematically weighted so that bikes that have only recorded a low number of miles don’t carry as much weight as ones that have done more miles. That’s why the BMW’s are there, because there are so many of them and they do high mileages. So my beloved MT-07 isn’t in the top ten even though it gives over 70MPG.

Get yourself sorted:

Check your bike to see if it’s average fuel consumption is on a par with other owners.
